Taoiseach to meet Barack Obama for St Patrick's Day celebrations

The Taoiseach will meet the President of the United States of America at the White House today for the annual St Patrick's Day celebrations.

Enda Kenny will brief President Obama on the situation in the North, as well as pushing the case for the undocumented Irish, and the EU-US trade agreement.

He will present the President with the gift of a leather-bound Atlas depicting the Irish Famine, and with a crystal bowl of shamrock.

Mr Kenny is expected to invite the President to make a return trip to Ireland when he attends the G8 summit in Fermanagh later this year.

The Taoiseach said he would also update President Obama on how Ireland is "making progress in exiting the bailout programme".
