Taoiseach set to receive new allegations of Garda misconduct

The Taoiseach is due to be presented with a dossier containing 200 new claims of Garda misconduct.

The Mail on Sunday reports that the new claims include an investigation that could have prevented a murder, sexual assaults that were not properly investigated and drugs and dangerous driving offences.

The paper says a new female Garda whistleblower has also emerged, with documentation of even more claims.

Fine Gael TD for Meath East, Regina Doherty, says that a full inquiry is necessary, to restore confidence in the gardaí and the Garda Ombudsman.

"Going to bed at night-time, the Irish people deserve to have 100% confidence in their Garda Síochána force and they deserve to have 100% confidence in the oversight body," she said.

"I don't think that exists right now, today.

"I think anything the Government can do to reinstate that confidence that we should all have in those extremely important bodies should be done if it's required."
