Taoiseach refuses to rule out a November election

Tensions are growing between Labour and Fine Gael as the Taoiseach refuses to rule out a November election.

Many within Fine Gael including former Minister for the Environment Phil Hogan have openly called on Enda Kenny to call a snap election after Tuesday's budget.

However Mr Kenny has remained tight lipped on the issue in recent days.

Labour meanwhile, including leader Joan Burton, would rather see the Government complete its term of office.

Political Editor with the Sunday Business Post Pat Leahy says concern's mounting in the Labour camp in particular:“He said it that the election would be in 2016 twice in the speech on the Fennelly commission report in the Dáil, that was three weeks ago and he hasn’t said it since.

“This is terrifying the Labour party, who believe, rightly or wrongly, that a 2016 election gives them the best hope of salvaging the seats that they need to return to government.”
