Taoiseach: Matter of army guarding ATMs to deal with change of currency 'put to bed'

The Taoiseach Enda Kenny insists the dispute around whether the army would have to guard Ireland's ATMs has now been "put to bed".

However, Mr Kenny has been accused of misleading the Dáil over his account of the contingency planning for a possible euro breakup in 2012.

This afternoon the Taoiseach said he made no apologies for overseeing contingency plans to deal with a sudden change of currency.

Mr Kenny said: "It's in that context that those discussions took place and they were the participants that took part in them.

"As the Governor himself has commented on this quite recently, it has been verified and the matter has been put to bed."

However, Sinn Féin's Pearse Doherty accused the Taoiseach of being misleading as Mr Kenny tried to draw a line under the controversy, shouting across the Dáil: "You misled the Dáil."
