Frances Fitzgerald is less than a week in office and is now investigating several affidavits and other documentation.

The Tánaiste said Minister Fitzgerald intended to investigate these latest allegations quickly and promptly.

"The important thing is that these allegations are investigated as quickly as possible...and dealt with effectively. I know that is Frances' Fitzgerald's intention," he said.

"The important thing is that public confidence in the gardaí is restored."
