Taoiseach gives reaction to Ahern resignation

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today given his reaction to the resignation of Bertie Ahern from Fianna Fáil.

Taoiseach Enda Kenny has today given his reaction to the resignation of Bertie Ahern from Fianna Fáil.

"When the leader of any party, of such long experience as former Taoiseach Ahern decides to walk away, it’s an indication of, I suppose, some of the soldiers of destiny walking in a different direction," he said.

"Soldiers of Destiny" is one interpretation of an English translation of "Fianna Fáil".

He was speaking in Shanghai in China where he is beginning a four-day trade mission involving 90 Irish companies.

Mr Kenny dismissed suggestions that the publication of the Mahon Report is damaging to Ireland's reputation as a place to do business.

He said investors from China would know that the report is the conclusion of a long and sorry saga in Irish history.
