Taoiseach defends NAMA in Dáil
19/05/2009 - 18:32:51Taoiseach Brian Cowen has today insisted that the National Assets Management Agency (NAMA) will work once it is up and running.
The Government came under attack in the Dáil this evening in the wake of comments made last week by Michael Somers of the National Treasury Management Agency.
Doctor Somers told an Oireachtas Committee that he did not have the staff to run NAMA, and he knew more about its intentions from reading newspapers than from Government.
Cowen told the Dáil that NAMA would deliver for the Irish people.
“What we are proposing is a tested proposal that has been tried elsewhere,” the Taoiseach said.
“We are stating clearly that we intend to get it right and we will get it right and that is what we are going to do.”
