Tánaiste hoping to convince German leader to support debt deal

It is hoped Ireland can garner further support for its bid on a deal on the issue of Anglo Irish Bank promissory notes today.

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore is meeting with Germany's opposition leader in Dublin where a discussion will take place on Ireland's debt.

Social Democrats party leader Peer Steinbruck is challenging Chancellor Angela Merkel in this year's German elections.

Other issues up for discussion will include Ireland's EU Presidency and the European budget.
