Tánaiste appeals to EU for bank debt deal

The Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has warned that Irish taxpayers cannot continue to bear the weight of European banking debt.

Mr Gilmore has been speaking on the launch of Ireland's Presidency of the EU this month, in an article being published in nine newspapers across Europe.

He has appealed for a bank debt deal for the country's taxpayers, which has already stumped up €64bn to cover debts.
