Tánaiste again refuses to rule out further public pay cuts

The Tánaiste has again refused to rule out further pay cuts for public servants.

A work to rule is underway in the public service over the cut in pay introduced in the Budget and the pension levy introduced a year ago.

Speaking in the Dáil today, Tánaiste Mary Coughlan insisted that it is impossible to say that further pay cuts are not an option.

"No-one on this side of the house is in a position to predetermine what will happen in the context of budgetary adjustments next year," she said.

The Employment and Enterprise Minister however also insisted that the Government remained "anxious" to involve itself in public sector reform, which in itself would create savings.
