Tánaiste accuses Sinn Féin of property tax hypocrisy

Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore has today accused Sinn Féin of hypocrisy in opposing property tax in the Republic while implementing it in the North.

Minister Gilmore was responding to leaked details of the new tax in today's newspapers.

The report shows that most homeowners will pay between €200-400.

However, city dwellers will pay more than those living in rural areas.

Responing to Deputy Mary Lou McDonald in the Dáil today, the Tánaiste accused Sinn Féin of hypocrisy for opposing the tax.

"Sinn Féin used to believe in equality between north and south," he said.

"Deputy, a house valued at £150,000 in Antrim pays £1,100 in property tax."
