The HSE is to cut more than €7m from Tallaght Hospital's budget, it emerged this afternoon.

Widespread cuts are expected across the five main hospitals in Dublin, but Tallaght will be worst hit.

A spokesperson for the Mater Hospital confirmed that it is facing budget cuts of €4.3m this year.

HSE bosses met today to decide how they can reduce a budget over-run of more than €1bn.

A fall-off in revenue and an increase in demand for medical cards is being blamed for the over-spend.
