Talks continue in bid to avert Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown rubbish strike


Efforts will continue today to avert a planned strike, which would see residents in the Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown area of Dublin go without bin collections.

Talks between unions and management are due to resume at the Labour Relations Commission this afternoon after no breakthrough was made at yesterday's negotiations.

The row centres on a decision by the County Council to outsource bin collection services to a private company - Panda - from next week.

SIPTU's Padraig Yeates warned that pickets would be mounted on Thursday if no progress is made.
