Survey shows Ireland as a nation of TV bingers

Ireland has become a nation of TV bingers, according to a new survey on how we use technology in our homes.

The eircom Household Sentiment Survey estimates 1.4 million people now watch back-to-back episodes of their favourite shows.

However, the survey also found that 91% of TV viewing is still "live" rather than on demand.

Also, half of all 16-34 year olds watch live or 'catch-up' TV on portable devices, shunning the traditional TV set.

When asked about how we would like to see technology working for us in the future, one in three of would like to use a driverless car, while 53% say that life would be better with a robot to help with household chores.

More than two-thirds (68%) said they would be keen to run household appliances remotely, ie start the washing machine/turn on the oven etc. when out and about.
