Survey: 90% of social care workers have experienced violence at work

A new survey shows 90% of social care workers have experienced violence in the workplace.

Social Care Ireland has carried out research which also shows that 75% experienced physical assaults - some on a daily basis.

The organisation - which is launching the report today - says the situation means the most vulnerable are not getting the vital services they need.

Spokesman is Noel Howard: "We are at the top of the scale.

"If you take the Netherlands, Australia and the UK, Ireland has the highest percentage in terms of what our survey found.

"It is the highest percentage of incidents in the workplace which are violent and that says a lot.

"It is an unenviable position to be in."
