A surfer has been rescued off the coast of Co Kerry after getting into difficulty.

A surfer has been rescued off the coast of Co Kerry after getting into difficulty.

Ballybunion Sea and Rescue were alerted to the incident on Ladies Beach just before 1.30pm this afternoon by a friend of the surfer.

A rescue operation was launched involving the Shannon Rescue Helicopter and a unit of Valentia Coastguard.

The man was located a short time later at an inlet near the Nine Daughters area.

He was brought to shore by the rescue helicopter and is currently receiving treatment from Ballybunion sea and rescue medical personnel.
