Civil and human rights campaigners from Britain, Ireland and the USA will gather at Trinity College in Dublin today for a memorial conference marking the 20th anniversary of the murder of Belfast solicitor Pat Finucane.

Mr Finucane's widow, Geraldine, and his legal partner, Peter Madden, will speak of their personal loss while also demanding a fully independent public inquiry into state collusion in the killing.

Pat Finucane was the outstanding defence solicitor of his generation - taking shoot-to-kill allegations to the European Court of Human Rights and challenging gagging orders protecting police from having to give evidence at inquests.

Collusion in the murder ranged from the British Army agent who scouted the murder scene to the police informer who provided the murder weapon.
