Sunbed staff 'not knowledgeable about cancer risks'

The Irish Cancer Society claims staff at sunbed outlets in Dublin have little or no knowledge about the risks of skin cancer.

The organisation says it carried out undercover research earlier this month on two gyms, two tanning shops, two DVD stores and two beauty salons offering sunbed services.

It found that different providers had different guidelines about how much usage was safe and that staff appeared to have very little training.

Yesterday, Health Minister Mary Harney said she would like a full ban on the use of sunbeds to be introduced.
