A major conference on the prevention of suicide will open in Dublin today.

Minister for Health Mary Harney will be among the key speakers at the event at the Clarion Hotel, Liffey Valley.

The conference, Suicide Prevention – Protecting the Family of Tomorrow, will be hosted by Console.

The charity was established in 2002 by families who experienced the grief of losing a loved one through suicide.

Console supports and helps people bereaved through suicide, respecting each individual’s unique journey through the grieving process following their tragic loss.

Through its offices in Dublin and Galway it promotes positive mental health within the community in an effort to reduce the high number of attempted suicides and deaths through suicide.
