Students are being encouraged to consider foreign language options when choosing third level courses.

The Minister for European Affairs Dara Murphy has said many students have yet to finalise their applications before the CAO deadline on Sunday and he believes the study of foreign languages opens up a wealth of opportunities in terms of employment prospects, as well as cultural understanding.

In Ireland there is high demand, particularly in the technology sector, for graduates with strong foreign language skills.
