Motorists are being urged to watch out for fallen trees and debris on the roads this morning as a result of Storm Imogen.

A number of weather warnings are in place due to high winds, with the south-west expected to be worst affected.

The storm has left around 5,000 ESB customers without power.

High winds are being blamed for the damage with gusts of 130km/h forecast across Cork and Kerry this morning.

Engineers estimate that electricity supplies should be returned by lunchtime.

Anyone taking to the roads is reminded to slow down and to allow extra time for your journey.

Most reports of fallen trees and debris on the roads are coming from Co Cork, where AA Roadwatch say there are a number of fallen trees on the Baltimore to Skibbereen road and on the Curravarahane to Carhue Hill road.

They are also reporting fallen electricity lines on Bakers Road in Cork city and on Main Street in Baltimore.

In Clare, debris is disrupting traffic on the Spanish Point, Quilty Road, while a fallen tree in Co Kerry is partially blocking traffic on the N22 at Brennan's Glen between Farranfore and Killarney.

AA Roadwatch also say that traffic is down to one lane on the N69 Limerick to Foynes Road at the Askeaton bypass due to a fallen tree.
