State pays €155k damages to Cork woman Louise O'Keeffe over childhood abuse

The State has paid €115,000 in damages and court costs to Louise O'Keeffe on foot of a decision by the European Court of Human Rights.

The ECHR ruled in January that the Government failed to protect Ms O'Keeffe from sexual abuse she suffered as a schoolgirl in Cork in the 1970s.

The State Claims Agency is reviewing its day-school abuse cases to identify those that come within the parameters of the ECHR's judgment.

Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn says he will report back to the Government when the review is complete.
