The Central Bank has reported a further slowdown in borrowing last month.
In its latest monthly statistics, the bank says total lending to individuals and private-sector companies increased by just under 21% in the 12 months up to May.
This is down from 22% in the 12 months to April and is the lowest annual rate of increase since February 2004.
Elsewhere, the bank says it appears many people are using their SSIA funds to pay off credit card debts, with payments up €217m in May compared to the previous month.
