Social Democrats: 'People see Irish Water as failed model'

The Social Democrats have launched a scathing attack on the Government and Irish Water ahead of today's demonstration against water charges in Dublin.

The protest will take place in two different locations in the city at 2pm - Heuston Station and O'Connell Street.

TD Catherine Murphy has said that the money collected from the water charge will only cover the costs of collecting and that it leaves nothing for investment or conservation.

She added people now saw Irish water as a failed model.

"The support is building behind this Right2Water model," she said. "I think people see Irish Water as a failed model. The intention to pay the water conservation grant early will be seen, I think, as a sign of desperation."
