A fresh appeal has been maed for people to hide their PIN when using ATMs.
The Irish Payment Services Organisation (IPSO) says it has seen an increase in skimming leading to fraud, because people are not being careful when entering in their PIN.
A new survey shows only 28% of people cover the keypad when entering their PIN at an automated teller.
"Obviously everyone knows that its important to cover your hands when you're keying in your PIN at an ATM," said Una Dillion, head of card services at IPSO.
"I suppose in the same way we know we should be wearing factor 20 in an Irish summer - a lot of people know it, but they don't necessarily do it.
"The survey that we carried out of 260 ATM users suggests that less than 30% of the people using the ATM actually covered their hand when they were keying in the PIN.".
