Six released in investigation into young girl's rape in Dublin

Gardaí have released six out of the seven people they had been questioning in connection with the alleged rape of a young girl in south county Dublin.

Five men aged between 19 and 47 and two women in their forties were detained in Dublin and Wexford yesterday.

Six have been released without charge, and files are being prepared for the Director for Public Prosecution, while one of the women arrested is still in custody this morning.

It is claimed the girl, who is now ten years old, was abused between the ages of four and nine.

Security Editor with the Irish Independent Tom Brady says the alleged abuse was carried out over five years:

He said: "When the girl was aged between four and nine years, at her home in south Co. Dublin. The girl is now ten years old.

"Last year the girl was taken into care, on the basis that she had been neglected by her mother, and while she was in care authorities became aware of the alleged sexual activity involving her."
