SIPTU balloting rail workers on cost-cutting proposals

SIPTU members at Iarnrod Eireann have warned that industrial action is still an option if a fresh set of cost cutting proposals do not receive staff backing.

A ballot of union members gets underway today on the measures. The outcome will be announced in two weeks time.

The new proposals, which include a reduction in the timeframe of paycuts from 28 months to 25, came after workers rejected a previous set of proposals put forward by the Labour Court.

SIPTU said they won't be advising workers how to vote, and it remains up to them.
