SIPTU: Ambulance review must comment on cutbacks
SIPTU has demanded that a HIQA review into ambulance response times considers the impact of cutbacks.
The Trade Union's Health Division says recent reports of delays in ambulance call-outs are of huge public concern.
It says the annual budget for the ambulance service in Ireland is €130m, far below the €240m spent in Scotland.
SIPTU's Health Division Organiser Paul Bell said it was clear that cutbacks were having an impact, and he called for HIQA to be "full and frank" in its review.
"There is an issue with budgetary concerns," he said, "but rather than just me say that, we would much prefer that HIQA would comment on the resources. We would much prefer that the Oireachtas joint committee on health would review that."
