Speaking in Galway, Senator Ó Clochartaigh said: ”I believe that the Seanad should be recalled to help force action on a number of issues of national importance this week.

"The unacceptable and immediate threat of eviction of over 100 residents from their homes in Tyrrelstown and the crisis in housing and homelessness requires urgent action by the Government and Oireachtas.

"We therefore must meet in a bid to stop these evictions.

He added: "The Dáil will meet on Tuesday for limited statements on a number of issues.

"Other than the issue of housing the Dáil will largely ignore the important national issues I have outlined which warrant serious consideration.

"I am therefore arguing that the Seanad, which is adjourned rather than dissolved, should meet to force these matters onto the political agenda at Leinster House this week.

"We must discuss the matters that count to people and force action which helps lift the burden in their daily lives."
