Sinn Féin's Enterprise Spokesperson Peadar Tóibín says he believes Sinn Féin and Fine Gael are the parties to beat in the next election.
He also said Enda Kenny's government has caused distress and instability for many Irish citizens.
"The next election will be, I believe, an election between Sinn Féin and Fine Gael," he said.
"From Sinn Féin's perspective, it's about fiscal responsibility and social responsibility," he said, stressing that the party is dedicated to developing a strong economy with equal importance to "looking after all the citizens in a fair way."
The TD's comments come in response to comments made by the Taoiseach last night that a government with Sinn Féin and Independents would amount to a "political freak show".
Deputy Toibin said the Fine Gael government had "caused instability" by putting people on waiting lists for housing and hospital treatments, and by leaving citizens unemployed.
