Sinn Fein: Ireland should block the ESM fund

Sinn Fein has said that Ireland should use its trump card - and veto the establishment of the new European bailout fund the ESM.

The party said that blocking the fund would force European authorities to re-negotiate the fiscal treaty.

But the independent chairman of the referendum commission Judge Kevin Feeney says the government has already decided that its not going to veto the fund:

"It is theoretically possible that the Dáil and Senate might refuse it…I do know what the government has is a majority and it is highly likely that it will be passed through the Dáil and the Senate".
