Single people 'produce more waste'

Figures revealed today suggest that people living on their own are to blame for the country's growing household waste problem.

A Repak conference heard today that industry should also do more to cut the down on the amount of packaging it uses.

The new waste figures show that one person in a house of four produces four kilo of waste per week, whereas one person living alone produces an average of eleven kilo.

Just over a third of all households are now single person homes, but this figure is rising and with it demand for convenience meals and single serving portions, both major waste generators.
