Well-known traditional singer David Hammond died today, aged 80.

Well-known traditional singer David Hammond died today, aged 80.

The East Belfast-born entertainer was a friend of poet Seamus Heaney and others from the folk music scene.

He worked with the BBC and was also close to fellow musicians Paul Brady and Tommy Makem.

It is understood he died suddenly.
