A number of shots were fired early today at a house in Cork that had a number of children inside.

A number of shots were fired early today at a house in Cork that had a number of children inside.

Up to six bullets were fired at the front door of the house in Rathpeacon, in which the family were living.

However, the occupants had a miraculous escape and there were no injuries reported.

Gardaí in Mayfield are investigating and have appealed for witnesses who may have been in the area between 1am and 2am to contact them at 021 4558510.

A forensic and ballistics examination of the scene was underway today.

A garda spokesperson said: “We are investigating a shooting in Rathpeacon which occurred at approximately 1.30am when a number of shots were fired at the front door of a house.”

“There were no injuries reported and no arrests have yet been made and our investigation continues,” they said.
