Shooting stars to be seen tonight

A collection of meteors or shooting stars are set to enter the Earth's atmosphere tonight.

Earth is currently passing through a cloud of dust and debris left behind by a Comet called Tempel-Tuttle - and the so-called 'Leonid' meteors are the result of that.

The best time to see them will be after midnight, but they may also be spotted once it gets dark this evening.

Astronomy Ireland said large pieces of debris may also enter the atmosphere and flare up as fireballs.

Spokesperson Dave Moore told radio station i102-104 that many people had already reported seeing meteors in different parts of the country this morning.
