Sheriff St shooting victim Martin O'Rourke to be laid to rest today

The funeral of Martin O’Rourke - an innocent victim of a recent gangland feud - is to take place in Dublin later this morning.

He was shot dead last Thursday outside Noctor’s pub on Sheriff Street.

Gardaí believe an associate of a local Hutch drug gang had been the intended target for the shooting and that father-of-three Mr O'Rourke was killed in a case of mistaken identity.

It is understood Mr O'Rourke had been wearing a jacket of similar design to the intended target's.

Almost €2,000 has been raised by locals to help pay for his funeral. Any funds left over will be put towards a headstone and a trust fund for his children.

Local independent councillor Christy Burke set up a GoFundMe page to help support Mr O'Rourke's family.

He said: "We set up the fund (but other than that) I didn’t have to do anything. The community, the people, the generosity did it all. I just announced I was doing it, and they did it all."

Mr O'Rourke's funeral will be held after 11am Mass in St Michan’s Church on Halston Street in Dublin.
