Shatter: 'We will surrender no part of this country' to gangs

The justice minister says not a street in the country will be given over to criminal gangs or the Real IRA.
Alan Shatter says the gardaí will bear down heavily on those involved in such activity after speaking out for the first time after a series of gangland murders in the past fortnight.
He says there is already enough anti-gangland legislation but if the Garda Commissioner asks him for any more it will be delivered.
Mr Shatter says the gangs will not be allowed win: "As far as I'm concerned we're not on a slippery slope. The rule of law in the State will be upheld and we will surrender no part of this country, no street of this country or no laneway in this country to any criminal gang in this country
"Nor will we to the criminal gang which is composed of the Real IRA."
