The cabinet will today be briefed on the murder of Garda Adrian Donohoe.
Party leaders will also make statements on the matter in the Dáil this evening.
Yesterday the Justice Minister Alan Shatter visited Dundalk garda station and spoke to colleagues of Detective Garda Adrian Donohoe.
He was also briefed about the 100 strong garda investigation team hunting for the killers.
Minister Shatter will brief his cabinet colleagues this morning on the investigation so far.
He will insist to his colleagues that garda resources had nothing to do with the murder and reaffirm that an Garda Síochána has the full support of the government.
This evening in the Dáil special statements will be made on the first murder of a garda on duty in over 16 years.
