Shatter launches Victims Rights Alliance

The Justice Minister is launching of the newly formed Victims Rights Alliance in Dublin this afternoon.

It's made up of a number of organisations who want to pressure the government into implementing the Victim Rights Directive quickly.

The EU order gives victims certain supports, like the right to be given a reason if the DPP decides not to prosecute.

Barrister and Spokesperson for the Alliance Maria McDonald, said interviews following a sexual assault would be given by a garda of the same sex and be as short as possible.

She also said that giving evidence in court would be permitted through other means such as television links.
