SF and DUP to hold talks with Blair in London today

06/10/2005 - 07:48:15
Delegations from Sinn Féin and the Democratic Unionist Party are due to meet British Prime Minister Tony Blair for separate meetings in London today.

The talks are the first time Mr Blair has met the two parties since the decommissioning body confirmed the completion of IRA disarmament last month.

Sinn Féin is expected to use today's meeting to push for early talks on the restoration of power-sharing government in the North in response to the IRA move.

The DUP, however, has effectively rejected the decommissioning initiative due to a lack of photographic evidence.

It has refused to accept the word of the decommissioning body or the independent witnesses from the Catholic and Protestant churches, claiming they were "appointed" by the IRA.
