Sex offenders 'walking around at liberty' as allegations not investigated

Sex offenders may be left to walk around because notifications to child protection services are not investigated.

That is according to a support group for child abuse victims, One in Four, which is today launching its 10th anniversary annual report.

It outlines huge progress made in tacking child sex abuse over the past decade.

But Executive Director Maeve Lewis said that many tough challenges still remain.

"We regularly make notifications to HSE child protection service about allegations our clients have made," he said.

"While undoubtedly the system has improved in the past two years there are still far too many cases where those allegations are never investigated

"That means that dangerous sex offenders are still walking around at liberty around our communities."
