Severe winds to continue along coasts and in hilly areas

Met Éireann is urging people to to be cautious on the roads and in coastal areas as severe winds are expected to continue across most of the country today.

Forecasters say gusts of up to 130 kilometres an hour are expected in some areas, along with high tides.

Coastal and hilly areas will be the worst-affected. The Coastguard warned people to avoid exposed areas along the west and north-west of the country as severe gust are expected.

Meteorologist from Met Éireann Pat Clark is warning people to take care while driving or walking along the coast.

"The winds are quite strong and will peak later on," he said.
