A seven-year-old boy has been killed in a road accident in Co Kildare today.

A seven-year-old boy has been killed in a road accident in Co Kildare today.

Two other children and a woman in her 30s were seriously injured in the crash which happened in Nurney this morning.

A car and a lorry were in collision at Walterstown in Nurney at around 8.30am this morning.

There were three children travelling in the car which was being driven by a woman in her 30s.

One of the children, a seven-year-old boy, was fatally injured and was taken to Naas General Hospital.

The two other children and the woman were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise.

They are said to be seriously injured.

The driver of the lorry, who was travelling alone, escaped unharmed.

The road remains closed this afternoon and motorists are asked to avoid the area if possible.
