There is a security alert in effect the North, as a bomb squad has been dispatched to deal with a suspicious object in east Belfast.

There is a security alert in effect the North, as a bomb squad has been dispatched to deal with a suspicious object in east Belfast.

It was found on the Newtownards Road. The road is currently closed between Holywood Road and Grampian Avenue.

In recent nights there have been disturbances in the area.

Missiles, including fireworks, bottles and petrol bombs, were thrown at police patrols.
