A second child has died after a serious crash in Co Kildare today.

A second child has died after a serious crash in Co Kildare today.

An eight-year-old girl has lost her fight for life in hospital. A seven-year-old boy was also killed in the crash at Nurney this morning.

At around 8.30pm this morning a car and a lorry were in collision at Walterstown in Nurney.

There were three children travelling in the car which was being driven by a woman in her 30s.

The two other children and the woman were taken to the Midland Regional Hospital in Portlaoise, but gardaí have now confirmed that an injured eight-year-old girl has died in hospital.

The driver of the lorry who was travelling alone was unharmed.

The road remains closed and gardaí are investigating the cause of the crash.
