Second bank experiences technical issue

National Irish Bank has confirmed that it experienced a technical issue this morning on its systems.

It comes as the RBS Group, which owns Ulster Bank, warns of "bumps in the road", even though it claims to have fixed the technical fault that prevented customers accessing their cash.

National Irish Bank is assuring customers that the cause of the problem was promptly identified and back-up systems were immediately put in place.

Full service across all systems is now being re-established, with most already back up and running.

Branches of Ulster bank here will stay open late again today, as they continue to deal with the backlog of transactions.

RBS chief executive Stephen Hester has issued a public apology, after the massive technical breakdown left up to 150,000 Irish customers without service for the past number of days.
