Search resumes for teen missing off west Cork coast

21/03/2010 - 10:44:59
A search was continuing today for a man swept out to sea off the south west coast.

The man, thought to be aged 19 and from Scotland, was walking along the shore under cliffs near Baltimore, Co Cork yesterday morning when he was struck by a wave and carried into the water.

A friend was also knocked into the sea but managed to recover and raise the alarm.

The Coast Guard helicopter, Baltimore lifeboat crew and Irish Naval Service vessel the LE Roisin have been combing the coastline around the area, known locally as Spain.

Garda divers and members of a local diving club have also been brought in to assist in the search.

It is understood the man was renting out a house in the village for a holiday with several friends.
