Sean Fitzpatrick excused from Banking Inquiry

The former CEO and chair of Anglo Irish Bank, Sean Fitzpatrick will not have to give evidence to the Banking Inquiry.

Mr Fitzpatrick, along with former Anglo executives John Bowe and Pat Whelan, had been scheduled to appear before it in the next two weeks.

But the Director of Public Prosecutions has written to the inquiry saying any evidence the three men give, might prejudice a criminal investigation.

Meanwhile another former Anglo executive, Tom Browne, has refused to comply with an order of the Inquiry comittee - a matter that's now been referred to the Gardaí.
