A 21-year-old man is due to appear before a sitting of Drogheda District Court this morning charged in connection with the stabbing of a 16-year-old schoolboy in Drogheda on Wednesday afternoon.
The teenager, who is in a serious condition in hospital, was attacked on his way home from school.
The 16-year-old schoolboy was walking home from school with four friends along Laurence St in Drogheda, when they were confronted by a man who appeared to be drunk.
The man produced a knife and moved towards the group.
The injured boy is believed to have suffered wounds to the torso and to have sustained internal injuries.
A member of the public alerted the gardaí who arrived quickly at the scene.
The teenager was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital and, while his condition was not life-threatening, it is described as "serious".
