The High Court is expected to rubberstamp a settlement this afternoon between Savita Halappanavar’s widower Praveen and the HSE.
Three days had been set aside for the medical negligence case but it is understood the matter was settled out of court last week.
Savita Halappanavar died in University Hospital Galway a week after she was admitted in October 2012.
She was 17 weeks pregnant and told she was going to lose her baby.
There was still a foetal heartbeat so her requests for a termination were turned down.
During her inquest, a consultant denied telling Savita it was because Ireland was a catholic country and said she’d actually told her she didn’t see a threat to her life so decided to allow nature take its course.
A HIQA report and a separate HSE review both criticised the handling of her case, but there was never a public admission of liability.
A medical negligence case was due to get underway today but a source confirmed last night that it has been settled out of court.
It will still have to come before Mr. Justice Kevin Cross this afternoon to finalise a number of matters.
